“A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black, because all things in nature are dark except where exposed by the light.”

Leonardo da Vinci

Artist in Focus
Name: Jon Ismailovski
Suburb: Hamersley
Style: Organised chaos
Medium: Varies between paper, digital and paint

One of my favourite artists is... One of my favourite artists is The Yok. He's a local talent who grew up in the same area as me and I love his character style

A typical day for me is...  Well, I guess I don't really have many typical days. Trying to make a name for yourself as an artist means I tend to work a number of jobs on the side, everything from freight handling at the airport to teaching kids piano. Other than that you'll probably find me at the beach, at a concert or having a few beers with my mates.

I would best describe my practice as.... organised chaos with a character style that is heavily influenced by the cartoons of the 1940's and 50's and the psychedelic art of the 60's.

I’m currently very inspired by... everything, I think creativity flows from looking for inspiration in everyday things. Inspiration tends to hit me when I least expect it and in the strangest of places.
